Text On a Fill Color

I cannot get text to sit on a fill color and not have the fill color be blocked out by the text block.

I want the text to look as if it is sitting directly on the fill color.

a. If your text sits on it's own layer, switch off or freeze before hatching. OR

b. if there's a closed polyline to hatch, then select object to hatch, the fill pattern ignores the text. OR

c. if the object to be hatched is made up of lines, select add pick points, click within boundary, left click to return to hatch menu. select remove boundary; select the text and accept hatch.
